Supporting Industry in mechanical sector

Untitled

Supporting industry products in mechanical sector provide the kind of detail parts , metal assemblies for downstream industries . In Vietnam , this sector is quite developed , supplies relatively more efficient than other areas of Supporting Industry.

Currently, Vietnam has more than 500 enterprises in manufacturing all kinds of metal parts supplied for downstream sectors , accounting for a very small percentage of the more than 7000 engineering enterprises of the country . The main markets for the enterprises in this sector are the motor manufacturing, and industrial – agriculture machinery , automobiles .

Metal components production in the country has meet 85-90 % of the demand for motorcycle production , about 15-40 % of the demand components for automotive production ( depending on vehicle type ) , about 20 % for production equipment and 40-60 % for the production of agricultural machinery , movers and 40 % for construction machinery, about 10 % of the demand for metal component in high technology industries.

The production of metal parts for the motorcycle industry is evaluated relative developed with high supply capacity. Due to large market size , FDI assemblers in Vietnam have called many FDI suppliers to  investment and build partnerships with local suppliers . Similarly motorcycle industry , metal parts manufacturing industry for agricultural machinery , movers and construction machinery are relatively developed in Vietnam with high localization rate.

Production of mechanical components for the automotive industry , complete equipment and high-tech industry is still difficult . The main reason is the market for these products which is the downstream sector haven’t developed enough to create spillovers to SI development .

Currently, the most difficulty to develop mechanical components in Vietnam is limited supply of raw materials , especially steel fabrication. The manufacturer of the final product as well as mechanical supporting industry firms are still imported steel fabrication to produce components and equipment . Besides , the market of main downstream products (cars , synchronous , high-tech industries ) has developed weakly lead to limit viability of the sector.

To promote the development of mechanical components production, in the future, Government  should have strong policies to encourage the development of material production; decide to develop key downstream sectors and encourage the development of Supporting Industry for these sectors.

Opportunities for Vietnamese exporters

Exporters from Vietnam will see opportunities through cooperation and knowledge sharing with experts from mature markets such as Europe, Japan and North America, and will be able to strengthen their position through co-development of innovative product solutions. A focus on niche markets and penetration of electronics to new markets such as electronic lighting, automation, and energy will be advantageous for Vietnamese exporters.

Surge in demand for intelligent and efficient solutions

Technological, environmental and political trends will create a surge in demand for intelligent and efficient solutions, opening doors for innovative suppliers of electronics. Finally, specialisation in components and solutions for niche segments to meet the needs of older people is another opportunity for Vietnamese exporters, while the changing socio-demographic composition in Europe welcomes innovative products in the healthcare industry and new solutions for households.
